Our shareholders are:
- Active Investors: tech entrepreneurs who invest their capital and their time. They may serve on your board, provide guidance through calls, connect you to their network etc.
- Passive investors: a limited number of family offices with an entrepreneurial background and a long term investment strategy. These are not actively involved in the growth process of your company.
Our investment process is:
- Each company we invest in is first assessed by our Active Investors. See what we look for.
- Each entrepreneur decides for themselves if and what amount of capital and time they invest.
- Passive investors who match with your company goal are invited to co-invest under the same structure.
- Torus invests as a single entity in your company. See what a typical investment looks like.
As a result we have:
- No fixed commitment per investor: Investors can invest per their own strategy or conviction on a deal by deal basis.
- No fixed capital: We can do large and small deals and do not need to worry about portfolio construction which has no added value to founders. In a typical VC structure, it matters what group of companies you are in because the allocation of follow on investment is based on how you stack up against the other companies and there is only a fixed amount of capital available. We raise funds for every investment opportunity separately.
- No portfolio: We do not spray and pray, we want to be actively involved in your company. When we invest, we do so wholeheartedly. When we get up in the morning, we are thinking about the mission of your company, not the average return of the portfolio of companies we have invested in.
- No short time horizons: Most VCs will favor speed and size. Our investment horizon is almost 2x that of a typical VC fund.
- No fixed team: our investors can take on active roles in some investments and passive roles in other. We try to get the best match for your company.
